Idea:

Solution:
  • first phase Online-Courses for volunteers going to rural areas of Ukraine
Here is our very first description of the idea of energy cooperatives in the damaged cities on the assumption that the Germans are willing to do something for Ukraine.
  • Renewable energy cooperatives in the municipalities suffered of russisan aggression
  • Problem
  • There are many cities and small local communities that suffered from warfare. Some of them are totally destroyed, and some have damage or residential and infrastructure objects. There are cities where CHP and electrical substations were damaged (Sumy, Kramatorsk).
  • Task: develop the algorithm for organizing the renewable energy cooperative and achieving energy independence of the several communities in terms of postwar reconstruction
  • Activities:

  • Analysis of the possibility of using certain renewable energy in different communities
  • Series of online events for representatives of local communities (experts from Germany are involved)
  • Preparation of the information kits for representatives of selected communities
  • Development of a template of founding documents of an energy cooperative, in which EU citizens can participate, even with small investments.
  • Establishment of cooperatives for the deployment of RES (central wooden heating system, Solar, Waterpumps) in damaged cities. One of the founders of the cooperatives will be the city government.
  • Crowd-Investment: Establishing and popularizing online platform where EU citizens will be able to make investments (not only charitable contributions), which will allow them to get information about the progress of work and communicate with Ukrainian partners.
    • Investors become long-term partners, and long term friends, even visiting UA
    • city could be main stakeholder in cooopertives
    • Online meetings and courses to inform about development in UA
    • Kickstarter or Crowdfunding

  • is it  possible to work with locals in the times of war?
    • main energy sources were a target for Russian missiles
    • so small energy coops are sth. people are more open in Ukraine?
    • investments are more likely in Germany + Ukraine.
    • regulations got simplified at the moment
      • + the interpersonal trust was growing due to the war.
  • Idea to involve IDPs into the idea
    • rebuilding houses for IDPs or support
    • because people will fund for this target group
    • Rebuilding should be the focus of the campaign
    • everybody understands and even people give money that are older and are not familiar with renewable Energies.

    Short description (500 Signs)

After WECHANGE brought together enthusiasts from Ukraine and Germany for renewable energy and cooperatives with the project "Civil Society Energy" in 2021, a great potential for cooperation has become clear, but also the need for more education. In 2022, we want to create a bilateral forum where founders can find partner cooperatives that can help them build energy cooperatives and spread the green energy transition.

    Energy Cooperations startup program

    • Problem

    • There is only one Energy Cooperation so far.
    • Little knowledge about this tool, which can include and empower many people
    • Bad Reputation becaus of old soviet times
    • The Number of Small Investores looking for good Investments is growing, how can we attract them to invest in cooperatives
      • Societal Dimension of Kooperatives is missed in UA ->

    Goal

Detailed description of the project (up to 6000 characters):

With the help of renewable energy experts from Germany and Ukraine, WECHANGE 2021 invited local environmental NGOs to participate in digital exchanges, two live conferences, and to create a handbook to inspire the creation of new energy cooperatives. This has fallen on very fertile ground, especially in Ukraine. 2022, the dialogue is to be concretized and deepened, so that long-term know-how and investment partnerships are created between citizens and cooperatives in both countries. We are building trust for each other with educational programs for multipliers, networking opportunities and the development of a best-practice region for energy cooperatives.

Rising prices, climate change and dependence on monopolies are motivating civil society actors in both countries to question the energy industry. Despite an incredible potential of wind and solar energy in Ukraine, they cover only 1% of the energy demand. There is only one energy cooperative. Fossil fuels and nuclear power still account for 94% of the energy market and make the citizens of Ukraine dependent on large semi-public corporations and other states. The energy transition is still far from getting off the ground there.

With 800 energy cooperatives and about 30% renewable energies, Germany already has more experience in this area. But the future of German industry also lies in the hands of green energy partnerships with countries with which we can build and maintain reliable relationships. And we must do this actively. Because investment opportunities for more renewable energies are severely limited in Germany. More and more citizens and energy cooperatives are realizing this and want to invest their money sustainably or reinvest the income from energy plants.
The time for a new energy architecture in Ukraine is now exactly right: In the course of the political reorganization of Ukraine, the city administrations there have been given more freedom, more autonomy, but also more responsibility, according to the German model, with regard to the protection of the environment, health and energy supply. For the new political culture and the possibilities of an efficient and innovative administration, the employees are looking for inspiration and experience. If the transformation does not succeed in a participatory and decentralized way, the energy market will continue to be dominated by fossil energies and large (foreign) investors will buy the land from the population, which can considerably endanger the acceptance of renewable energies.

    Main Goals

    1. promoting acceptance for climate protection, through a participatory, decentralized renewable energy transition: The faster the energy revolution progresses in our neighboring countries, the sooner we can also import green energy surpluses (wind gas, hydrogen, power to X...) and better balance the European market. However, uncertainties and prejudices among the Ukrainian population are still very high. Fear of power cuts and rising electricity prices make educational work necessary. For this purpose, climate and energy ambassadors are to be trained within the framework of this project, who will found at least 10 Eco-Clubs in their home regions, from which further energy cooperatives can then emerge.
    2. mediate energy transition partnerships between established and young energy cooperatives: Everyone wants climate protection and renewable energy and no one can do it alone, but Germany lacks investment opportunities and Ukraine lacks knowledge and capital. We can bring both together through online networking and a conference in Ukraine. By the end of the year, at least three long-term, civil society investment partnerships should have been established.
    3. Enable civil society collaboration: We want to expand the inspiring dialogue from last year into a binding forum and encourage face-to-face exchanges in addition to online networking. The platform is to be financed in the long term by the surpluses of the cooperatives.

    Main Activities

    • February: Preparation of the contents of the "Climatefit" online course, translation of graphics and contents into Ukrainian, invitation of the experts.
    • 1st meeting: In the digital conference center of civilsocietycooperation.net, the two-month "Climatefit und renewable" online course for 100 Ukrainian multipliers (teachers, lecturers, employees of public administration, influencers and activists) will start in March, with experts from Germany and Ukraine, with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian. It will be moderated by the experienced project consortium from 2021.
    • March: Preparation of the excursion in Southern Germany.
    • 2nd meeting: In April, 20 of the most motivated course participants travel to Germany to look at concrete energy cooperatives, energy plants (PV, wind, biogas) and local heating networks near Freiburg, as well as to learn about the political culture of public administration.
    • After completion of the online course, the participants will start founding local Eco-Clubs, similar to Transition Town initiatives, BUNDJugend, Naturfreunde associations or Klimafit groups in Germany, in order to do local public relations work for climate protection and renewable energies on the one hand and to find out the local potential for renewable energies on the other hand. They can post their ideas and potential analyses in the online community and thus not only present them to their own community and experienced energy comrades from Germany, but also have them checked by experts from both countries.
    • 3rd meeting: In autumn, representatives of 20 German energy cooperatives will be invited to Ukraine to discuss experiences and potentials of a decentralized energy transition, to get to know the most promising energy projects in Ukraine and to form joint ventures for this purpose.
    • The German-Ukrainian energy cooperatives will be moderated by the project consortium until the end of the year, equipped with all necessary online tools for successful project work and supported for intercultural cooperation at eye level.

    Educational Program for Renewable Revolution

    Problem:

So, in Ukraine, we have a problem with understanding of society how green hydrogen technology can be used in heating, transport, and energy supply. People are afraid of everything that connect with hydrogen because we have a bad experience with the Chernobyl power plant, also hydrogen associate with explousition. We need to change this mind.

    Ideas and Goals:

If it is possible will be interesting to organize an educational project about the usage of hydrogen technology in Vinnitsya and it could be spread for all over the country. Vinnitsa is very good place for it because green hydrogen producer plantin will be built in Vinnitsya soon for compensation instability PV power plants and Wind power plants. Is it possible to appointment meeting online?
